Esme Vos, the doyen behind MuniWireless (Happy 1st Anniversary) is loving her SkypeOut service. She sent me this email. (I am looking forward to meeting her in person. She is going to be at the Always On Conference. I am not attending!)
I tested Skype’s new service, SkypeOut today. Works very well. You can call landlines and mobile phones. It’s not free. You buy prepaid minutes. In my case I bought 10 EUR worth of phone calls. It cost me about 30 Eurocents to call Amsterdam from Santa Cruz (for 30 min). The voice quality is surprisingly good. Occasionally I would hear an echo of my voice, but very faint. I called my brother on his landline in Houston, TX and that was crystal clear. They are coming out with a Mac version.
